Fevers are a gameplay mechanic in Miasmata.

They are developed as the player's health deteriorates. It is most often caused by injuries such as falling, drowning, or creature attacks, but also builds up as time passes. Dehydration will also cause a fever to develop, though this is treated by drinking water rather than taking medicine or resting.

Symptoms[]

The fever comes in two stages, with the lower fever only causing occasional problems. Should it go untreated, or if a large enough injury is sustained, it will become a high fever, making the symptoms more severe and frequent. A high fever will eventually lead to death if it is not treated. The specific symptoms include:

  • Loss of color vision
  • Loss of endurance
  • Reduced character control
  • Coughs
  • Blurred vision
  • Ringing of the ears
  • Blackouts

Treatment[]

Fevers can be treated by taking Basic medicine or Extra-strength medicine. Alternatively, sleeping in a bed will also cure the fever. It is advised to use basic medicine first as they are easier to make. Additionally, medication will prevent a passive fever from developing for some time, though it does not protect the player from developing a fever due to injuries.

The only way to permanently prevent fevers is to cure the plague, which is done towards the end of the game. This will make the player immune to all forms of fever, including those caused by injuries.
